Newport News, Virginia—Today Philip Forgit voiced his support for Congresman Heath Shuler's (D-N.C.) Secure America through Verification and Enforcement Act (SAVE Act) which has been introduced in both the House and Senate. The SAVE Act has the support of over 100 Republican and Democratic Members of Congress, as well as the National Federation of Independent Business and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
“I have said again and again that securing our borders and enforcing laws that prevent employers from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants must be the first step to solve the immigration crisis facing our nation,” said Forgit. “Virginians are ready for leaders who rise above partisan attacks and find real solutions to the problem of illegal immigration and insecure borders. That's why I would be proud to add my support to a fellow Democrat from North Carolina in his effort to pass commonsense legislation that works.”
The SAVE Act would help stop illegal immigration by securing the nation's borders, ensuring those working in the U.S. are doing so legally, and strengthening the enforcement of existing laws.
"Illegal immigration is one of the most pressing issues facing America today. It is estimated that over 12 million people are currently here illegally, and thousands more are coming in every week," said Congressman Shuler. "Americans are very upset at their government for not taking action, and they have a right to be."
The National Federation of Independent Business, the nation's leading small business advocacy group, said the SAVE Act strikes a “fair balance between increased enforcement and limiting regulatory burdens placed on small business.”
