Newport News, VA—Today, before a cheering crowd of over 100 supporters at the Forgit for Congress campaign offices in Newport News, former Governor Mark Warner gave a strong endorsement for Congressional candidate Philip Forgit.

“This race is going to shock not only the conventional political wisdom in Virginia but across the country because Philip Forgit brings the right agenda and the right background to face two of our most critical problems: America's standing in the world and how we remain competitive in the global marketplace,” said Warner, who is running for the U.S. Senate.

Forgit thanked Warner and all the friends and supporters in attendance including Virginia state senator-elect John Miller, whose former offices Forgit has been using for his campaign.

“There is a palpable sense of what's going to happen across the district this week,” Forgit said. “People have been coming up to me, saying 'You're the vet I'm voting for and I'm bringing my whole family along.' We can do this; we will do this; and I will be your next Congressman.”

“Philip Forgit will make a great congressman for the 1st District,” said Miller. “He will look beyond slogans and to solutions for the problems we face. Philip will bring a much needed common sense approach to government because he is guided by ideas and not ideology.”

After the event, Forgit and scores of supporters headed out to canvass door-to-door throughout the district.

Philip Forgit is a Veteran of the Iraq War and a Bronze Star recipient. He served with a Naval Special Warfare Unit as an advisor to the Iraqi Army in 2005-2006. A Naval Reservist, Philip was mobilized from his former job as a 4th grade teacher at Rawls Byrd Elementary. Philip is a nationally recognized teacher, winning the 2005 National Education Association (NEA) Award for Teaching Excellence.
