“Philip Forgit is a winner,” said Kaine. “He was not only an outstanding teacher in our public schools; he won national recognition for it. He not only served bravely in Iraq; he won the respect of his fellow soldiers and a Bronze Star. He not only is by far the best candidate in this race; with your help, he will win on Tuesday.”
Forgit thanked Kaine and the many friends and coworkers in attendance—both Democrat and Republican. He recalled that when he was deployed to Iraq, Kaine promised to check on his family to make sure they were doing OK. Now, Forgit said, another battle must be fought.
“With all that is happening to our country today, we have a patriotic duty to fight for this seat and we have a historic opportunity to win next week,” said Forgit. “We cannot let another career politician go to Washington to keep our troops indefinitely in Iraq and our schools continually underfunded. If you want change, you have to vote for something different.”
After the event, Forgit and many in the crowd headed out to canvass door-to-door throughout the district.
